Banks usually go one of two ways when it comes to bank bonuses – they require you to set up a direct deposit OR you can move over a large sum of money and hold it there for a few months.
A lot of banks will offer you a few hundred dollars to move your direct deposit, but for the truly big money – we’re talking thousands of dollars – they want you to move over a large sum. If you have a bit of cash sitting around, you could get even more.
Maybe you just sold something big – a business, a house, another major asset – and you need to hold that cash somewhere safe for a few months before you do something with it (buy another house, business, or major asset!).

Citigold® Checking Account – up to $1,500
Citi has a promotion where you can get up to $1,500 when you open a new Citigold® Checking Account too. Just deposit $30,000 or more in New-to-Citi funds in eligible linked accounts within 20 days and then maintain that balance for 60 days following the 21st day.
The bonus you earn is based on the amount you deposit.

Citi Checking Account – $350
New Citi Customers can open a new consumer checking account and get $350 if they have at least two enhanced direct deposits hit the account within 30 days of opening. Direct deposit must equal at least $3,000.
An enhanced direct deposit is any deposit that is processed through ACH or a person-to-person payment network, such as Zelle or Venmo. Traditional direct deposit, such as your payroll, also counts.

Chase Private Client – up to $3,000
Chase Private Client has a bonus of up to $3,000 when you open a new Chase Private Client CheckingSM account with qualifying activities.
The bonus is based on how much you deposit.

Wells Fargo Premier $2,500 Offer [In Branch Only]
If you have $500,000 cash sitting around looking for new friends, the Wells Fargo Premier bonus is a sizable one – get $2,500 when you:
- Open a new Premier Checking account at a Wells Fargo branch with a minimum opening deposit of $25 by 4/16/2025. You must provide the bonus offer code to the banker at the time of account opening. (they email it to you when you fill out the form on the promo page)
- Bring $500,000 or more in new deposits to qualifying linked accounts by Day 45 and maintain at least a $500,000 balance through Day 90 after account upgrade or opening.

Capital One 360 Performance Savings – up to $1,500
Capital One has a tiered bonus on their Performance Savings account. Open an account and deposit at least $20,000 in new funds into the account during the 15-day initial funding period and keep it there for an additional 90 days. The promotional page shares a promo code of BONUS1500 so make sure you enter that in if it’s not automatically populated.
- Earn a $300 bonus when you deposit $20,000 – $49,999,
- Earn a $750 bonus when you deposit $50,000 – $99,999,
- Earn a $1,500 bonus when you deposit $100,000 or more.
If you have or had an open 360 Performance Savings, 360 Savings, 360 Money Market, Savings Now or Confidence Savings account as a primary or secondary account holder with Capital One on or after January 1, 2022, you will be ineligible for the bonus. Chase Sapphire Preferred Card – 60,000 Ultimate Rewards points
The Chase Sapphire Preferred card has a great welcome bonus – earn 60,000 Ultimate Rewards points after you spend $4,000 in purchases within the first three months.
Normally, Chase Travel points are worth about a penny a piece but when you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card, your points are worth 25% more when you use their travel portal. This means the value is about a thousand dollars once you factor in that bump up.
The card is also solid as a daily use card (it’s our primary credit card) because the cashback rewards schedule is so favorable. I go into greater detail in our review of whether the Chase Sapphire Preferred card is worth it.

Capital One Spark Cash Plus – $2,000 cash bonus
If you run a business, you may be interested in the Capital One Spark Cash Plus. With this card, you can earn $2,000 cash bonus after you spend after spending at least $30,000 and using the card within three months of account opening.
This card has an annual fee of $150!
Best of all, you earn unlimited 2% cash back on every purchase, with no limits. This makes a strong case for it to be your standard business card (for at least a little while).

Other Bank Bonuses
As you can see, there aren’t a lot of $1,000 bonuses. It’s a lot of money and so banks make the requirements quite difficult to achieve – but it’s possible!
But at the next level, at just a few hundred dollars, there are many deals.
Here are some other popular bank bonuses, many of which are far less than $1,000, but still worth checking out:
U.S. Bank – up to $450
Earn up to $450 when you open a new U.S. Bank Smartly® Checking account and complete qualifying activities. Subject to certain terms and limitations. Offer valid through April 17, 2025. Member FDIC.

BMO Checking – $350
BMO is offering a $350 bonus* when you open a BMO Checking account and have $4,000 in direct deposits within 90 days of opening. It is a very straightforward offer that is available nationwide.

Bank of America – $300 Bonus Offer
Bank of America offers a $300 Bonus Offer cash bonus if you open a new account and Set up and receive Qualifying Direct Deposits* totaling $2,000 or more into that new eligible account within 90 days of account opening. Bank of America Advantage SafeBalance Banking® for Family Banking accounts are not eligible for this offer. It has a monthly fee that is easy to have waived.
Chase Total Checking® – $300
Chase Bank will give you $300 when you open a Total Checking account and set up and receive direct deposits totaling $500 or more within 90 days. There is a $12 monthly fee that is waivable with a monthly direct deposit of just $500, so no gotchas on this deal!
